What Is A Microschool?
Coming Soon

At Sparks' Village Academy, our scholars are always at the heart of what we do. A microschool is a small-scale, community-oriented educational model that typically involves a limited number of students in mixed-age groups, often facilitated by a dedicated teacher or a team of educators. Culturally relevant pedagogy in a microschool context emphasizes the integration of diverse cultural perspectives, experiences, and histories into the curriculum. This approach aims to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that recognizes and respects the cultural backgrounds of each student, fostering a sense of belonging and promoting a holistic understanding of the world.

Sankofah

Sankofah- to return and get it. Sankofah teaches us that we must reach back to our roots in order to move forward

Substance

/Scheduling

We will combine visual, hands-on, auditory, technology and project based learning to cover subjects such as math, reading (M/W) science, and African-American history (T/Th). Our curriculum is created by our founder.

Exposure

Students will experience the world through field experiences, guest speakers, virtual field trips, and more!

Enrichment

In a latch key sort of fashion. After school hours will consist of nature walks, gardening, learning other languages, exercising, yoga, music and other recreational activities.

Learning Coach

A Learning Coach at SVA's microschool serves as a key figure in creating a personalized and engaging learning environment. Similar to a teacher in a traditional classroom, the Learning Coach tailors instruction, facilitates activities, and monitors student progress. However, at SVA, Learning Coaches differ by not acting as gatekeepers; instead, they focus on fostering an inclusive atmosphere that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning, ensuring each student receives personalized attention and guidance for a successful educational journey.
